Leeds Co-operative Photographic
Society Founded 1962
The club has developed a reputation of being one of the friendliest in Yorkshire. We have a good mix of members both in terms of sex and age. Members are always happy to share their experiences and guide their colleagues. We have an open approach to changes in technology and how they might impact on photography.
Membership embraces both photographers and non-photographers - indeed all who enjoy seeing interesting and quality work. The active photographers mainly work with 35mm equipment and record their Images on black & white film, colour negative and transparency. Their work is then shown by either projecting the transparency, or by producing photographic prints ranging in size from 7" x 5" up to maximum of 20" x 16". These prints can be either home or trade processed.
A further development during the last year or so is the introduction of Digital Imaging. With the ever decreasing cost of computer ownership and the improvement in printer quality, more and more members have taken a serious interest in this new technology. The club enjoys an active group of workers who are developing skills in this area. Advice is always available on the multitude of issues raised. Between us we can either give a good indication of the answer or can track down "a man who can" to respond with a more definitive answer.
Apart from the normal weekly meetings, regular activities include studio sessions, workshops, and darkroom techniques. Day trips - both local and further afield and regular weekends away to such locations as Northumbria, the Lake District the Yorkshire Dales and .Norfolk. The camaraderie is always excellent and the opportunities to develop photographic techniques and ideas greatly increased.
In May 2001, three members of our club were invited to participate in an international photographic festival in Lille, France called "Transphotographiques". Representatives from Leeds together with those of all other towns and cities across Europe, twinned with Lille were represented. This included Kharkov in the Ukraine, Turin, Cologne, Esch in Luxembourg, Liege, Rotterdam ,and Saint Louise in Senegal . Our representatives Pam Bradley(President), Steve Stone and Bob Redman took 20 prints from the members of LCPS to be exhibited in the Hotel de Ville in Lille with those of the other participating cities. Our prints can be seen in the Gallery pages of this site.
